Fun Day

Fun day today. My parents came down for a visit, and to show us pictures from their recent cruise (they took a Carnival cruise to the Eastern Caribbean back in January). We had lunch at the newly-opened Old Bag of Nails in uptown Westerville, and had our token beer (Westerville has been dry since Prohibition, and is the home to the Anti-Saloon League). I have to remember to write to the owners, however, my Guinness was cold! Heresy!

Starbucks Chai

So, I tried Starbucks Chai today. I'd never had it before, so last time I was at a Starbucks, I asked about it. Turns out it's some sort of spiced black tea, and Starbucks makes it with a milk base. Sounded good, so today, on the recommendation of my wife, I tried it.

I've got to say, there's good and bad about it. On the plus side, it's got a great taste. To me, it tastes like a liquid pumpkin pie. Which, in my world, is a good thing. On the minus side, there's no way I could recreate this. They use a syrup, rather than brewing it. Bummer...

Update: My friend, Piglet, tells me that I could get the syrup from practically any neighboring Starbucks. D'oh!

Wendy's has officially ended up on my crap list. I'll still go there for meals, but it has gotten less enjoyable. They got rid of their Spring Mix salad, and replaced it with more salads with meat on them. I personally prefer to have a veggie-only salad and complement that with a burger (or in today's case, a spicy chicken sammich). Now, my only option is to get three (yes, count 'em, three) side salads, which are the only salads without meat.

On an unrelated note, I met with the EP today and got some good exercises to do for my knees, back and abs. Now I need to go out and get an exercise ball...

Considering my lack of exercise this week, today's check-in went pretty well. The dieticians continue to be pleased with what I'm eating, though the exercise physiologist would rather that I exercise more. Tomrrow is water aerobics day, and I'm meeting with an EP for exercises for my back and knees.

On another note, I tried a different program on the recumbent bike. I'm going to need to work up to a half-hour on it, but if I can do it, it'll be one heck of a workout...

Lots of fun at the dance last night. The event keeps getting better attendance every year. This year, there was barely enough room on the floor to dance! But still, we had fun.

Frustrating day today. I ran the spyware scanner that's built into my browser and found that I had a keystroke logger somewhere on my drive. Dancin'

No formal exercise today, but Amy and I are going dancing for V-day. Otterbein College has a "Evening of Music and Romance" program tonight, and patrons are invited to dance along with the school's swing band. It's a lot of fun, we've been there several times in the past.

On a completely unrelated note, you have to love a free meal. We went out to one of our faves tonight, Texas Roadhouse, and they got both our steaks slightly overdone. We were happily consuming them when a manager came over and asked us how our meals were. We told her that the food was good, but a little overdone, and showed her the insides of our steaks. She kindly comped us our whole meal! Now that means I have to take Amy out for V-day again... :)

Tired

I'm just tired all the time. I even got my blood pressure meds lowered, I thought that would help, but no joy. I skipped working out this morning, electing to get the extra hour and a half of sleep. I'll make up for it Saturday when Amy and I go dancing...

Check-In With McConnell - 2/8

Back up to full speed with my exercise this morning. The knee felt pretty good, so I just kind of let go. I didn't push too hard, and it still feels pretty good. Tomorrow will be an easy day for it (water aerobics), so if things are good by Friday, I think I'll declare the knee healed (for now).

My check-in went well. I dropped two pounds on their scale. I'm getting very near the 200 lb mark on their scale. Another good week or two, and I should be there.
